Pieces of Rock

Rock of ages

Fell from grace

And cleft himself in two

It took a day

To join him back

To make him look as new

We put him straight

Upon a chair

To cheer him up

We sang a song

But he wouldn’t

Say a word

His face remained

A stone less mask

Until we felt quite absurd

When the hours

Reached into night

We became depressed

So we painted him

And dressed him up

And put on

Coloured lights

We blew balloons

And sang old tunes

For the rocks delight

Then at half past two

He left the room

And went upon

His way

Not a word

Of gratitude

So there’s nothing left to say
