Poetry

Martine’s poetry is very diverse, ranging from nonsense to the serious. In print are two volumes of nonsense poetry with pictures. Their aim is to stimulate and amuse the reader with built in riddles and verbal imagery. Some of the poems have complimentary pictures, many of which are conceptual in form. The third volume consists of transgendered poems relating to the difficulties faced by Martine in her transformation from male to female. Although many reveal the difficulties of coping with transition others are lighter as they are self-parodies.

Utter Nonsense is a companion book to Lovely Nonsense, a collection of nonsense poetry with paintings. Freedom in skirts is a selection of transgendered poetry reflecting the hidden fears of being thought a freak and rejection.
